The name La Filature comes from the period of phylloxera, the vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape died and Quiot family made growing silkworm to survive. A part of the destroyed vineyards became mulberry field, the house they lived in received silkworm growing, and spinning (fillage in French) was made in the building in front of their house. This building became "the spinning house" : "La Filature" in French. In memory of this terrible period, and for keeping in our minds that such a disaster still might happen at any day, the name lasted for us until nowadays. When this building have been transformed into a cellar, Jérôme Quiot decided to keep the name of La Filature.
